Intelligent Marketing managing director Tricia Weener is taking on an international cycle challenge for the second year running to raise £10,000 for disability charity Norwood.
Pedalling a mountainous 400km route across South Africa – George to Cape Town – over the course of five days will put Tricia’s stamina to the test. But previous experience shows that she is more than equal to the challenge.
Tricia raised over £7,500 in sponsorship for her 600km ride from Vietnam to Cambodia last year. Cycling for a gruelling seven hours per day in temperatures above 30ºC is not a feat that many would want to repeat. But the enormous sense of achievement Tricia felt on returning home has spurred her to not only sign up for the South Africa event in November, but to up the ante by setting herself an ambitious fundraising target.
Tricia said: “This trip will be incredibly tough but if I’m struggling, all I need to do is remember the sense of elation I felt when completing last year’s event and knowing that all my efforts were for such a worthy cause. I’ve got a rigorous training programme to make sure I’m ready. People ask how I manage to fit it in whilst running IM and looking after my two children, especially because work is so busy at the moment. But I keep myself focused by thinking about all the families the sponsorship money I raise makes all the difference.”
