23red Central has won the Arts Council England account to promote the opening of five new arts venues opening across the East Midlands and the website promoting them, www.artof.org.uk.
The new arts venues are New Art Exchange, Nottingham, opening September 2008; QUAD, Derby, opening late summer 2008; First Movements LEVEL Centre, Rowsley, Derbyshire, opening November 2008; Curve, Leicester, opening November 2008; and Nottingham Contemporary, opening late summer 2009.
This is a major campaign by Arts Council England, East Midlands, to promote the opening of these arts venues. These fantastic new buildings will change the face of the arts in the region and the aim of the campaign is to encourage more people to get involved with them. Research has shown arts venues are often seen as hubs for socialising, from family days out to first dates, and it is this area the campaign focuses on.
The artwork features members of the public engaged in debate, playing and enjoying themselves, behind a large bright red picture frame. Beside the image runs the line: ‘From this summer five new world-class arts attractions will be opening on your doorstep. Be the first to find out what’s on offer’, with the web address printed beneath. The media campaign comprises of local newspapers cover wraps, door drops, website and postcards and forty-eight sheet billboard posters at key sites in Nottingham, Derby and Leicester.
Fiona Mitchell-Innes, head of communications at Arts Council England East Midlands, said: “We are delighted to be working with 23red Central to help us raise awareness of the East Midlands arts scene and the opening of the five new arts centres over the next 12 months. Their ability to both think big and within the local community is exactly right for this brief. The East Midlands is a dynamic and creative region that has been shy of the spotlight for too long. However, this will change with this campaign and turn the eyes of the world in our direction.”
Stephanie Drakes, regional director of 23red Central, added: “Our creative team really wanted to bridge the gap between the arts and the regional community, so they went out and photographed the people these venues will benefit most, to capture just how exciting this is for the region.”
The campaign will drive traffic to the website which will be a ‘one stop shop’ for everyone wanting the latest details about the venues, enabling users to register their details to be first in the know for local events.
